Birthdays are always big productions in our family and we always wind up celebrating each one multiple times. Of course, my daughter’s 6th birthday last month was no exception to that rule. Starting with a trip to NYC and a visit to American Girl, followed by her school celebration, family celebration and birthday party, it went on for 4 days.
To go along with the birthdays, my kids’ cakes have always been a big production. We’ve had a princess castle, Dora’s forest, a hockey cake and decorated cupcakes, to name a few. Our cakes, at times, have been so beautiful that they were difficult to cut and eat (we just wanted to keep looking at them forever!), so we decided to keep the cake part simple this year.
Like most kids, mine love going to birthday parties and their favorite part is usually the party favors. They are always happy with whatever they get – they just love the idea of getting a present! This year for my daughter’s birthday, we couldn’t decide on a favor and she kept changing her mind (she’s 6 years old, it happens often!). I read a post on my friend Kim’s blog about the cake she had for her sons’ birthday party using YouCake, a Long Island City based company who has combined their “love of food and technology to revive the photo cake.” Curious, I checked out their website and found my daughter’s party favor – a photo cookie!

The whole process was super easy – I e-mailed YouCake a photo of my daughter and what I wanted it to say. They added the text, sent me a proof and shortly after, a box of cookies that said Happy 6th Birthday Camryn in purple script writing were on my doorstep. The cookies were approximately 2 x 3 inches and were carefully packaged and individually wrapped, each with a list of ingredients on the back of the package. Totally adorable, not to mention delicious (I had to try one for the purpose of facilitating this review, wink, wink).
YouCake will also take your photo and transform it into an edible print, complete with text and embellishments. They will ship the cake topper to your bakery (or to you if you are making a homemade cake) overnight, precut and complete with instructions on how to apply. We had many ooh’s and ah’s from parents and kids over our YouCake photo cookies – a great end to our almost endless birthday celebration!
Disclosure: You Cake provided me with some complimentary photo cookies to facilitate this review. All opinions expressed in this post are my own.

I’m just seeing this. I’m so glad that the cookie favor worked out! They look so cute!
