So many fun things are happening at The Bronx Zoo this summer! My kids can not wait to head over before September 3 to see the 2012 Lego Wildlife Forest and play in the Construction Zone! Take a family journey through the Wild Forest and check out giant LEGO sculptures of some amazing animals including tigers, Kihansi Spray Toads, Chilean flamingos, a mother and child gorilla, penguins, baby giraffe, fish and other exotic wildlife. When you’re done, walk around the zoo and visit the real life versions of the sculptures. Kids can build their own LEGO sculptures in the construction zone and the whole family can enjoy Wildlife Theater performances and the hit musical puppet show, Avenue Zoo.
2012 LEGO Wildlife Forest
The entrance to the exhibit area will herald this temporary LEGO themed exhibit and the location will be transformed to immerse the visitor in an engaging experience with the structures and the story they tell. The story will be reinforced at each of the gates with LEGO themed navigation signage that becomes the vehicle to promote the exhibit at both the entrances and as a way finding symbol throughout the park. Each structure will be enhanced with design elements that reinforce the animal’s particular habitat. At each location, visitors will not only be able to view the wildlife sculpture, but also learn about WCS’s global work. The program reinforces the value of our Zoo wildlife as ambassadors to conservation.
LEGO Construction Zone
The LEGO Construction Zone will feature thousands of colorful LEGO bricks that kids can choose from and build their own sculptures of animals. They can also help complete a vibrant Mystery Mural display at Dancing Crane Plaza. The Bronx Zoo will display visitors’ own LEGO creations on bookshelves for everyone to see!
Build With LEGO Master Builders
Can you guess how long it will take your family to build your favorite animal out of LEGO bricks? On July 21 and August 11 (11am – 4pm) on the World of Reptiles lawn, take the LEGO Family Challenge and join LEGO Master Builder Dan Steininger as you compete with other families! Dan will offer tips and challenge participants to build wild animals including poison dart frogs, giraffes, and more. Once each month, the Bronx Zoo will also host a Special Master Builder event that will engage visitors in the LEGO building experience and also provide informational focus on the animal that is highlighted.
Live at the Asia Theater at the Bronx Zoo: Avenue Zoo
Avenue Zoo debuted in the spring during Animal Tales Extravaganza and performances will continue throughout the summer season. It’s a musical adventure that tells the story of Kate Monster, from Avenue Q, who ends up in a new habitat, Avenue Zoo. She meets up with various animals and discovers that although they may seem strange and different, they are important inhabitants of the planet with their own special contributions. And, they are not so scary after all.
