During the month of April, the Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) is offering some great exhibits and activities that are included with your paid museum admission. Take the time and bring the kids for the day and enjoy!
In the inner lobby every Tuesday through Friday from 230 – 430pm from April 3 through 27, sail into Spring as you design a kite decoration to celebrate the new season. Kids will use special dot markers, yarn and paper to create a one of a kind kite. This activity is great for all ages. (Will not be offered from April 6 through April 13).
From April 1 through 30, stop by the Community Gallery to view a mixed media exhibition featuring the artwork of elementary school students from the Elmont School District, right here on Long Island.
Through May 6, LICM is hosting a traveling exhibit, The Mystery of the Mayan Medallion. An archaeological team has mysteriously disappeared, along with a priceless jade medallion buried among ancient Maya ruins—will you be the one to uncover the mystery and find the priceless treasure? Get a taste of what it’s like to be an archaeologist as you join in the treasure quest and immerse yourself in the beauty and intrigue of Maya culture. Watch the video left behind by the missing archaeological team, then piece together their clues to find the jade medallion. This highly interactive exhibit has visitors translating ancient Mayan glyphs, examining an excavated skeleton, investigating the deadliness of tomb-dwelling spiders, and more as you search for the elusive medallion. It’s great for all ages and free with museum admission. The Mystery of the Mayan Medallion has been developed by The Arkansas Discovery Network, through a grant funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.
