I’ve been a fan of Alison G. Bailey’s writing since I first read about Noah and Tweet in Present Perfect. When I had the opportunity to read her latest novel, STOP!, I was thrilled to say the least. Alison has the ability to convey every emotion of her characters to where the reader is not simply reading, but feeling it right along with them. Her books take readers away from being merely observers of a story and put them as part of the story.
Every life has a different path full of sharp turns, smooth curves, and steep drop offs.
Hollis Murphy has a plan—college, career, boyfriend, love, marriage, family. A predictable, normal life. She’s on track until an outside force causes her to crash and burn. They call it an accident, because that’s the only word they know to explain what happens to her. It helps everyone move on with their lives, except for Hollis. She holds on to the belief that she’s been targeted for a reason.
Risher Stevenson is intelligent, caring, sweet, and the hottest boy Hollis has ever laid eyes on. He fits perfectly into her original plan for a normal life. Everyone loves him.
Benton Daniels is intelligent, caring, sweet, and the bravest boy Hollis has ever met. He doesn’t fit into her life but gives it purpose and makes it extraordinary. Everyone hates him.
One is bullied. One is tormented. All are judged. How will it STOP?
Book Review: STOP!
STOP! is a difficult book to review because to summarize it would be to give away so many spoilers. There were surprises with almost every page turn. Hollis Murphy is starting out at college and looking to start over. Something recently happened to her which is not told to the reader right away, but is alluded to. Those who Hollis tells her story clearly have to gain her trust, and it is almost as if the reader needs to gain her trust as well before we can fully understand her secret. Due to her secret, Hollis finds it very difficult to form new relationships, but when she meets her new college roommate, she learns that maybe she is not the only one with a secret. The most gorgeous and popular and pretty much perfect Risher Stevenson takes an interest in Hollis and she spends so much of her time questioning his motives.
Alison Bailey has the amazing ability to not only write a great romance novel but also touch on extremely prevalent social issues of today, not only discussing them but bringing an awareness to the emotions connected to these issues for all readers.
STOP! is a great book that you will absolutely have trouble putting down and will be thinking about for a long while after you are done.
