Disney Pixar’s latest movie is about a young girl with crazy red hair and gigantic blue eyes, who is a princess but not very princess-like, who does not live in an imaginary land, whose mother does not die in the beginning of the movie and who does not fall in love with a handsome prince. Based on all of these reasons, and more, Brave is sure to be a huge hit this summer.
Set in Scotland, the story of Brave centers around a young princess Merida who wants to buck tradition and make her own path in life. She does not care for the age old tradition of having her parent choose a husband for her from one of three Lords presented to her. She runs away, asks a witch for a spell, which winds up to be not what she wanted and spends a lot of time attempting to make everything right again (okay, so Disney couldn’t do away with EVERYTHING princess related).
Telling you about the movie would give away too much of the story but I will say that Brave had everything – humor for the kids, humor for the adults, great animation and wonderful music. The best thing about this movie though was where it wasn’t a love story between the Princess and a Prince, it was a love story as basic as it could be – one between a mother and her child – the true meaning of love.
Brave opens in theaters today, June 22, 2012, and it is a must see movie for the entire family (note for young children that there are some parts that are a little scary). For more information, you can Like Brave on Facebook and follow Disney Pixar on Twitter.
