A few weeks ago, I saw If/Then on Broadway, starring Idina Menzel and I am OBSESSED. The show was amazing, even more so that we were watching from the VERY. FRONT. ROW. Idina Menzel is ridiculously awesome, as was the entire cast of the show. I have a deep love for all Broadway musicals, and this one was no different. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack non-stop since the show and am plotting exactly how I’m going to go back to see it again. I took my daughter this past weekend to see Newsies again – we saw it last summer and both absolutely loved it, and since it’s ending it’s Broadway run on August 24, we went for one last hurrah.
That being said, it’s extremely rare that I’ll get to see two shows in one year, let alone in one month. Although I absolutely love everything about Broadway musicals, tickets are very easily cost prohibitive, especially for a family of 4. When we saw Annie last year, tickets were easily $150 per, and that was while the show was still in previews. For 4 people, that is an insanely expensive day.
Broadway Week may be my answer (it’s actually two weeks long, which definitely works to everyone’s benefit). From September 1 through September 14, 21 Broadway shows will offer 2-for-1 ticket pricing. These are amazing Broadway show discounts, as tickets are generally not decreased this much. Sales begin August 18 when more information about shows and times will be posted to Broadway Week‘s website. Broadway Week happens twice a year, once in September and once right after the new year. I’ve never participated before, but I am definitely going to try and get tickets! Wicked and Aladdin are topping our list right now and I’m thinking it may be a great way to kick off the school year!
