Change. We all need it, much of the time. Everything is constantly changing around us, that’s what makes it exciting. Back in 2006, I needed a change when I started LIParentSource.com.
LIParentSource.com started as a resource website for families back in 2006, way before the mainstreaming of blogs and prevalence of social media. I had just had my second child at the time and felt that there were very few accessible resources for parents who knew pretty much nothing about what to do with these kids of ours. Over the years, the site has evolved and now owns a little corner of what has come to be known as the “blogosphere”, focusing on so many different things that parents on Long Island (and beyond) want to be in the know about. There have been times when I’ve written more personal posts or posts that didn’t exactly fit into the focus of the site, but LIParentSource.com was never meant to be a personal or lifestyle blog – even after 8 years, the focus of being a resource for local Long Island parents has remained pretty static.
As you may have noticed over the past few months, the posts on this site have been changing, and going back a few months, I’d describe them, at best, as “few and far between”. I can say nothing other than, in all honesty, real life just gets in the way. My kids are not babies anymore, which is its own set of craziness, including, but of course not limited to, homework, sports, Hebrew school and other after-school activities. I’ve gone back to working a full-time job, and even though I do work from home, it is still work and it is busy. These aren’t excuses for my absence, but a statement that my reality is no different than yours.
Growing in blogging is nothing short of trial and error. Do some writing, see if it works. Do some more, see if it works. If it doesn’t try and shift gears a little bit. If it does, keep going. You’ll notice that over the past few months, the focus of LIParentSource.com has shifted and has been focusing solely on local events. While these are great posts that spread the word about great events, I’m finding it not very exciting because I’m not able to write about the things I really want to.
I’ve thought long and hard about what to do with this blog, and there were only a few clear cut options: (1) leave it alone keeping reference to the 400+ posts that have been lovingly created over the past few years, (2) take it totally offline or (3) figure out a direction that it will go in, and make sure that is manageable for me. I took some time and spoke with colleagues, readers, friends and other bloggers and gave a lot of thought to the road ahead, and I finally feel confident in the decision that I’ve made.
LIParentSource.com will continue, and sometimes our focus will change. The common theme that has always run throught his site will continue – I will do my best to bring you information that you want, as parents. Sometimes it will be local events, sometimes it will be product reviews and discount codes, sometimes it will just be about photos, or food, or travel, or even my kids. I’m hopeful to bring giveaways back in the near future, so definitely keep your eyes open. I’ll keep posting cool stuff on the Facebook page like quick discount codes and links to funny videos/cool articles/awesome blog posts that we find, so make sure to ‘Like” us over there as well. And of course, there’s always Twitter, as well as Instagram and Pinterest. I actually have been toying with the idea of launching another blog that will focus more on lifestyle – fitness, food, things I love – with more of a personal twist. But, I’m still on the fence about going down that road, or just bringing all of that information here.
Lastly, thanks for loving LIParentSource.com and continuing to support the blog through all the changes, hopefully you will enjoy this latest one as well! As always, I welcome your comments, feel free to send me a note through the Contact page or directly via e-mail to email@example.com.
