Cruises for families have become a popular vacation adventure and afantastic option to consider when deciding where your family will visit next. Cruise lines have been pulling out all the stops to attract families to their ships by including larger areas dedicated to children’s programs and family activities, new ports and excursions that appeal to a variety of age groups and amenities that specifically make traveling with kids easier and more enjoyable. Many people tend to have concerns about whether or not cruising for families is truly appropriate. Will they have enough activities to keep the kids busy? Will Mom and Dad have any time alone? Is it really a good value? The answer to all of these questions…absolutely!
The benefits to cruises for families are many and varied. The whole family gets to experience several different ports of call, sometimes in different countries or time zones, and you only have to unpack and settle in once. Your “hotel” travels with you, but you still get to explore new destinations exposing the whole family to different cultures and providing the opportunity for memorable family excursions. While on the ships, thanks to dedicated children’s programs and counselors, kids and teens alike are treated to fantastic spaces that are “kids only” and fill their time with activities, games, and events. Mom and Dad can take in the more grown-up areas of the ships such as the spa, lounges, or evening entertainment all while knowing that the kids are only a page away if they need anything. When they all want to spend time together, cruise ships offer tons of family activities such as scavenger hunts, trivia or karaoke contests, and bingo and most have games and sports decks as well.
For any parents worried about picky eaters that may be traveling in their party, a cruise ship offers a delightful amount of choices for your kids, and the best part is that aside from certain restaurants on the ship, all of your food is included! The kids can certainly hop around and try all of the different cuisines that the ship has to offer, or stick with their tried and true chicken fingers and burgers without tying the whole family to that same choice. When you factor the availability of different cuisines, room service that is usually included, luxury accommodations, and the ability to move from destination to destination with ease, cruising is a wonderful value for your travel dollar.
Just think; you could spend a day relaxing on the ship while the kids enjoy their programs and meet up in the evening for a fantastic family dinner, then take in a show knowing that the next day you’ll be in an exciting new destination! You could wake up and explore ancient Mayan ruins in Cozumel, learn to pan for gold in Alaska, or shop in the Straw Market in the Bahamas. No matter what your interests are, or what pace you want to set for your vacation, cruising is an excellent choice for families!
