In 2001, the friends and family of Joan Scarangello, a nonsmoker diagnosed with lung cancer at 46, took action to increase survivorship of lung cancer and hope for others affected by the disease. They created Joan’s Legacy to raise awareness about lung cancer and funds for research into its diagnosis and treatment. Since then, they have been joined in their research and awareness activities by like-minded groups, working through the peer-reviewed awards process.
Because the battle against lung cancer can only be won by working together, and the reason each person cares about lung cancer is often very personal, the name Uniting Against Lung Cancer was created. Uniting Against Lung Cancer benefits from the same strong Medical Committee, the same successful research program, and the same solid nonprofit status, while expanding the kinds of lung cancer studied. And it allows each group joining in these efforts to raise funds and awareness in their loved one’s name.
Admission to Kites for a Cure is a $30 donation which includes snacks, kites, decorating materials & a t-shirt.
