I can honestly say I don’t remember the last time I saw a movie that wasn’t rated G in the movie theaters. Or one where I wasn’t doling out Twizzlers, lollipops or other food to keep the little mouths from talking. In all seriousness though, for purposes of this post, I am sitting here and trying to think of the last movie I saw in the theater – and I can’t. We saw The Muppets back in December and although I thoroughly enjoyed it, it wasn’t exactly a relaxing grown up movie. We also saw the Chipmunks, We Bought A Zoo and will be seeing The Lorax at the end of this week. But honest and truly, I can not remember the last movie I actually saw without my kids in tow that did not involve (a) a family with kids, (b) animated characters or (c) both of the above.
I was just sent a trailer for Friends With Kids which is definitely in the running to be my trip to the movies during 2012. It’s a movie that may tell the story of our own lives – you have a group of friends who one by one start having kids and everything changes. However, it takes a sharp turn that probably won’t mirror your life – two of the friends who remain single look at how all of these kids have changed everything and decide that they want to have a kid together, while simultaneously dating other people. The two feel that they will be able to more easily juggle parenting responsibilities without the complication of being in a relationship with each other (better than their friends). Of course, there are so many flaws in this train of thought, resulting in some “big laughs and unexpected emotional truths as this unconventional ‘experiment’ leads everyone in the group to question the nature of friendship, family and, finally, true love.”
This romantic comedy stars stars some of the cast of the movie Bridesmaids (which was hysterical – if you haven’t yet seen it, rent it immediately) including Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph, plus Chris O’Dowd, Megan Fox and Edward Burns (one of my long time favorites from back in the days of The Brothers McMullen and She’s The One).
Friends With Kids opens in theaters this Friday, March 9th. Watch the trailer below and start organizing your own girls night out or book your sitter.
PS My last movie was Something Borrowed, which was in theaters in May 2011.
