Did you shop Small Business Saturday? If you haven’t heard, American Express had named the Saturday after Thanksgiving this year “Small Business Saturday” and offered registered users a $25 credit on their American Express bill if they shopped a local small business on that day. Great incentive, especially around holiday shopping time.
Why did they do this? Four reasons –
* Community For every $100 spent at local small businesses, $68 returns to the community (Civic Economics)
* Employment Small businesses employ half of all private sector employees (Small Business Administration)
* Economy Small businesses represent 99.7% of all employer firms (Small Business Administration)
* Local Jobs For every year over the past decade, 60% – 80% of all new jobs were generated by small businesses (Small Business Administration)
Doe to the success of Small Business Saturday, American Express decided to extend the benefit through the end of the year! That means that through December 31, 2010, if you shop a small business and you have registered your card with American Express, you will receive a $25 on your bill! Register your card here (and read the terms & conditions) and hurry because this benefit is limited to the first 300,000 enrolees.
