Whenever I hear of someone having an allergy or sensitivity to gluten, my heart breaks a little and I clutch my bagels and brownies a bit closer. I am a self-diagnosed wheat addict. That being said, when I received a box of Udi’s Gluten Free foods to sample, I thought the UPS man had the wrong house.
Having now tried a few of Udi’s products, I am comforted to know that my gluten-free friends are not relegated to a joyless life without wheat. The Snickerdoodle cookies? Ridiculous. Delicious, chewy, and generously sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. I ate four in one sitting (don’t try that at home) and was completely disgusted with myself, but I still contemplated a fifth the next time I walked into the kitchen.
The Dark Chocolate Brownie Bites are another tasty way to satisfy your sweet tooth. Although chocolatey, they did lack a certain depth of flavor, probably because the chocolate comes from chocolate liquor-based chocolate chips (very common in packaged chocolate foods).
As with many specialty foods, Udi’s Gluten Free foods do not come cheap. But if I had to avoid gluten, I would definitely splurge on these treats. I’ll probably pick some snickerdoodles next time I’m at Whole Foods!
Disclosure: In order to facilitate my review, I received a complimentary package of goodies from Udi’s that included the products mentioned above. All opinions expressed are my own.
