Calling All Families! Are you looking for a fun, healthy, outdoor family activity that supports a wonderful cause at the same time?
We are excited to present Girls Go the Distance Walkathon and Healthy Living Family Activity Fair! The event will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at SUNY Old Westbury, from 9:30am to 1pm. All are welcome, Girl Scouts and non-scouts alike! Go to www.gsnc.kintera.org/walk to register to walk! All family members attending the walk need to register online. (We have to make sure we have enough food and goodies!) Every participant who raises $35 or more will get a fun incentive backpack with a patch, t-shirt and other exciting goodies.
The Day’s Schedule
From 9:30am to 1:00pm the Healthy Living Activity Fair will be bursting with exciting activities that are fun for the whole family! Get ready to…
• Bowl a strike with Garden City Lanes
• Discover interesting facts with Ripley’s Believe it or Not!
• Do you know what “Thaumatrope” is?—find out from the Long Island Children’s Museum
• Maximize your brain power with Power Brain Training Center
• Experience a Fencing demonstration
• Have you explored Femcho* yet? *feminine, energetic, mindful, cool, healthy, original
• Not to mention more games, giveaways, free samples and lots of food!
Healthy Living Initiative
All monies raised from the Walkathon are going to benefit the GSNC Healthy Living Initiative, which brings a unique perspective to keeping girls healthy. Girls today define health in their own terms, placing as much emphasis on emotional and social well-being, as on physical health, nutrition and physical fitness. In addition to healthy eating and physical fitness, the Healthy Living Initiative will also focus on increasing girls’ self-esteem, media-image awareness, and how to develop healthy relationships.
If you are unable to join us at Girls Go the Distance you can still contribute by making an online donation. Click here to make a general donation or donate to a specific Troop by searching the first and last name of a participating walker. Your donation will make a difference!
