This past weekend, my kids watched in awe as Santa Claus and his elves rode on fire trucks down our street. Our family is Jewish and we don’t celebrate Christmas, but we never really discussed Santa Claus with our kids either. Our son went to a temple nursery school, so it was never something that we felt needed to be addressed. Our daughter currently does not go to a temple nursery school and in her class, they learn about every holiday throughout the year. So yesterday, with the horns blazing and lights shining, our fire department and Santa Claus rode down our street giving out candy and my two kids were as excited as I’ve really ever seen them. After they passed through, my daughter was full of questions about what had just happened. “Was that really Santa Claus? Did he come all the way from the North Pole? How did he get onto a fire truck?” The questions continued for awhile and we never told her that Santa Claus was not real. She can believe in Santa if she wants to, but she does know for sure that he doesn’t come to our house.
Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, do your kids believe in Santa?
Kids everywhere can write letters to Santa and even get a response postmarked from the North Pole.. Could you imagine the looks on their faces when they get their letters? If you want to extend your kids belief in Santa just a little bit longer, this is definitely the way to do it!
Have you seen the commercials advertising OnStar, the in-car safety and security system that offers 24-hour access to advisors that you can connect to through your car in an emergency? On Christmas Eve, OnStar advisors will add another level of expertise – they will be prepared to give subscribers specific location-based updates on Santa Claus’s journey around the world, based on data received in partnership with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Beginning at 6 a.m. EST on Christmas Eve, OnStar subscribers can press the blue OnStar button in their vehicles to request a “Santa Update” during which advisors will share Santa’s whereabouts through 5 a.m. EST Christmas morning. If you do not have an OnStar subscription, you can track Santa on the web at www.noradsanta.org or by phone by calling 877.HI.NORAD (877.446.6723) for his location.
