Looking for something activities for the kids over the Christmas break? My kids will be home for 2 full weeks – that’s a long time! I’m sure I’ll be hearing the cries of “I’m bored” at about 915am on the first day. If you’re not planning to travel, you may want to sign the kids up for one (or more) of the various holiday camps going on across Long Island.
Long Island Holiday Camps
Port Washington Skating Center
For the young hockey players, take advantage of 10 days worth of ways to improve hockey skills and have a great time. Daily sessions are held from 1045am – 1245pm and taught by PWSC staff and guest coaches. Daily pizza lunch will be provided, along with free admission to the 1pm skating session. You can enroll on a daily basis ($50/day) or $475 for all 10 sessions. Holiday camps will be held from December 22, 2014 through January 3, 2015. Enjoy one of the many sports holiday camps at Sportime’s multiple locations across Long Island, including a variety of sports (Amagansett 631.267.3460, Syosset 516.364.2727, Lynbrook 516.887.1330 or Kings Park 631.269.6300) and tennis (Massapequa 516.799.3550, Bethpage 516.933.8500 or Roslyn 516.484.9222). Island Garden Basketball
An expert trained staff will help kids with basketball skill development on December 22, 23, 29 and 30, 2014. Holiday camps run from 9am to 3pm and will emphasize proper shooting form, fundamentals, dribbling, one-on-one moves, foul shooting, games and more skills. Good for boys and girls from grades 2 through 9.
Long Island Rough Riders
Young soccer stars can play to their hearts’ content and improve their game at Rough Riders winter camp. Choose from full-day or half-day sessions to work on skills like ball handling, dribbling and goal scoring from December 22, 2014 through January 2, 2015. Camps are held st the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale. For more information, call 516.622.3900.
Frozen Ropes – Syosset
Don’t know what to do on a day off from school? Join Frozen Ropes Syosset for a Multisport Camp (December 22 – 24, 26, 29 – 31 and January 2) or Baseball and Softball Clinics (December 22, 30)!
Almost all of the JCC’s around Long Island offer holiday camps – most of these locations offer more choices than we have room to list here. Programs range from pre-school age to high school age, sports and non-sports, as well as programs for children with special needs. Center for Science Teaching & Learning
CSTL offers full-day ‘Schools Out Camps’ that gets kids involved in hands on science experiments and explorations. Children between ages 4 and 12 years old have the opportunity to explore 17 acres of nature, visit live animals, do arts & crafts, conduct experiments, and take part in science shows and demonstrations conducted by our staff of professional science teachers. ‘Kids Club’ is held over Christmas break from December 22, 2014 through January 2, 2015 (excluding Christmas Day & New Years Day) with your choice of morning, afternoon or full day programs. Kids can participate in a variety of daily themed programs from decorating popsicle ornaments to cookie cutter Pizzas to a New Year’s Eve Black Light Party and more. You can add an option to for tennis for an additional charge. Programs are for kids between the ages of 2 and 12, and they will be broken into groups by age (2-4 years, 5-7 years and 8-12 years). The Fashion Class
Kids ages 6 – 12 can join The Fashion Class in Merrick for a day of fashion design, sewing, styling and more. Camps run one full day and kids will learn to sew and make a garment, sketch the fashion figure, design their own fashion brand, learn to walk the runway and create a fabulous jewelry design; not bad for an eight hour day! Winter break camps are being held December 29 & December 30. 2014 and January 2, 2015. Cost is $130 per day, which includes all supplies. To register or for more information, call 646-329-6663.
