Granola can be a tasty, good-for-you snack if you choose wisely. Unfortunately, what you sometimes find in the supermarket has so much added sugar, that all the health benefits seem lost in a sea of calories. A better option is to make your own, or select varieties packed with healthy ingredients.
I recently had the chance to try some of Pure Bliss Eats’ granola and I was happily impressed! Pure Bliss Eats is a Long Island-based bakery. From their website: Pure Bliss Eats has a mission to be a health food company that offers delicious baked goods that won’t hurt your waistline. Nicole has carefully chosen each ingredient like organic spelt flour, raw nuts and organic raw blue agave nectar to carefully craft each baked good. These treats are delicious and provide long lasting energy. You will not feel a sugar crash after eating any one of these items.
I sampled five varieties of granola and all had unique flavors and textures. The Honey Blueberry variety tastes like your standard granola. Chunky, crunchy and lightly sweet, it is great on its own or added to yogurt. Splash some milk on it and you’ve got yourself a little granola cereal.
The Peanut Butter Chocolate granola is a highly addictive guilt-free dessert. It has a lighter, looser consistency – perfect for sprinkling on some vanilla ice cream. (Although I guess that negates the guilt-free aspect…)
The Apple Cinnamon variety is a chewy treat that tastes like a comforting bowl of apple cinnamon oatmeal. Mixed in with plain yogurt, it’s a solid choice for breakfast.
Goji Berry Cacao granola had a nice depth of flavor from the cacao, and Goji berries are loaded with antioxidants and vitamin A. They have that chewy, sweet/tart taste similar to dried cranberries and cherries.
Finally, the Chocolate Gingerbread granola was winter snacking at its best. Hand me a soy latte and a bucket of this and I would be a happy girl.
