“It’s the best of boat worlds, gonna rock out the show, gonna rock out the show and get the best of boat worlds”
If you can’t recognize that, it’s Best of Both Worlds by Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, as sung by my 4 year old daughter.
In a few short years, our house has gone through the change – Dora to Demi Lovato, The Wiggles to The Wizards of Waverly Place, Sesame Street to Selena Gomez. Do I need to go on? My 8 year old son was surprised by the fact that neither his father nor I know the words to the latest song by the Jonas Brothers. As my kids get older, they have started to watch “people” shows (as opposed to animated) and Disney is, by far, the channel of choice.
Needless to say, there was a big party in our house a few weeks back when we were asked to review the Wii game, Disney Sing It: Party Hits. With 30 songs by Ashley Tisdale, Demi Lovato, Jonas Brother, Justin Bieber and more, kids will love to belt out the karaoke with their friends (or with you parents out there!) and see how many stars and points they can get, or try and improve their singing skills with a celebrity vocal coach. The Party Play mode can be one- or two-players (you do not need two microphones for two players, they can share) and the players can do duets, competitions or team plays. The Sing-Off mode is great for a large group (up to eight players) – split into two teams and go head-to-head with two mics. The lyrics to the song chosen scroll across the bottom of the screen and it’s pretty easy to see where you are in the song and the “Encore” feature also enabled us to listen to the same performance over and over. And over. Seriously though, it was very cute to watch my kids listen to their performances.
Disney Sing It: Party Hits is available for Wii and Playstation 3, comes with a microphone or without (note: you do need the microphone to play) and is rated E for everyone. I did think that my son would have an advantage over my daughter who is 4 years old and can’t read, but she clearly knew a few of the songs and didn’t let that stop her from getting in on the action (see video below of her rendition of I Never Told You by Colbie Callait). Disney Sing It: Party Hits retails for $38.99 (without microphone) or $46.99 (with microphone) on Amazon.com.
