If you are planning to have a holiday gathering this month and haven’t started planning, don’t worry! My idol Ina Garten (The Barefoot Contessa) often recommends combining homemade hor d’oeuvres with assemble-at-home and store bought snacks. This advice is especially helpful this time of year when we’re all running in a bazillion different directions. After attending Fresh Direct’s Nassau County launch party and tasting some of their treats, I went through the website and picked out a few options for a delicious, classy and festive party. Here are my top picks:
Bicoastal Cheese Plate ($29.99) – Not only does this platter include a creamy California goat cheese and an east coast Cheddar, but it also contains the crackers, strawberries, grapes and honey to complement the cheese. A delicious time-saver!
Artichoke Dip ($9.99) – Since it gets warmed in your oven, no one really needs to know you didn’t make this yourself. Serve with pita chips or warmed tortilla chips.
Crostini with Onion-Rosemary Marmalade and Goat Cheese ($9.99 for 12) – I sampled these at the launch party and they were delicious. The pastry was so flaky that it was hard to believe they were ever frozen.
Spanakopita Triangles ($9.99 for 12) – Pastry + Spinach and Cheese = Heavenly
And of course we can’t forget about dessert…
Winter Cupcake Platter ($25.99 for 18 cupcakes) – These are festive and cute. You might want to get another platter just for yourself.
If you struggle selecting wines, Fresh Direct’s website also has an impressive selection of well-priced wines along with plenty of recommendations on how to pair them with food.
