Health insurance is expensive, there is no debating that. When I started my first job out of college, the company that I worked for not only provided great health insurance, but they paid 100% of every employee’s premiums. It wasn’t until I changed jobs to a company that paid barely any of the health insurance premiums that I clearly understood what a huge perk that was.
But when it comes to health care, premiums aren’t the only expensive part. There are so many variables factoring into the costs – co-pays, prescriptions, in-network vs. out-of-network doctors, deductibles – the list can go on and on.
As prices rise, families are getting creative in finding different ways to save money, one of which is by joining loyalty or rewards programs offered by stores that they frequent. Walgreens is a pharmacy with multiple locations across Long Island, many of which offer 24-hour and/or drive-thru pharmacies (very convenient when you have sick child or young baby) and they are now offering a fantastic program called the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. Members receive savings on more than 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications and additional benefits such as discounts on flu shots, nebulizers, diabetic supplies and and bonuses when purchasing Walgreens brand products.
For the month of January, Walgreens is offering a special discount on annual membership – for $10 a year, a family membership covers everyone in your immediate family (including a spouse, dependents aged 22 and younger and pets) or individuals may join for $5. This is a great savings from the regular prices of $35 for a family and $20 for an individual.
