Did you know that on average it costs $190,000 to raise a child until age 18 in the Northeast? By the way, you need to add college tuition on top of that. Kids need so many things – especially when they are babies. When my kids were born, it would take us forever to get out of the house because we had to basically take inventory every time we left and make sure we had all of the “stuff”. As they have gotten older, that stuff has not gone away, it’s just morphed into bigger things! Regardless, we can all agree that money we spend to raise out kids is money well spent, but what if I told you how you could recoup some of that money? Would you want to know how?
If you’ve never heard of a kids consignment sale, you have no idea what you are missing. Consignment sales are a very easy way to recycle your kids unused or gently used unwanted items and get paid for it. And the shopping benefits – you can often find up to 90% off retail prices for name-brand items that are in excellent, if not new, condition.
What exactly is a kids consignment sale?
A kids consignment sale is huge seasonal event featuring thousands of items for kids. I really mean thousands – as an example, Long Island’s The Kids Kloset sale has well over 30,000 items for sale at each event. At the sale, you’ll find clothing, toys, books, movies, every conceivable type of baby equipment, furniture, shoes and accessories, bedding, room décor and just about anything for kids. The event usually lasts between 3 and 4 days in a large venue fully transformed into a retail environment full of clothing racks, fixtures, professional signage and register set-ups.
How do I sell at a kids consignment sale?
It is almost as easy to sell your stuff at a kids consignment sale as it is to buy! Anyone can participate as a seller (aka “consignor”) and you don’t even have to attend the event – the event team does all your selling for you! All you need to do is log into your sale’s website, register for free and start entering and tagging your items. You are able to set your own prices for each item and the system will create all of the tags for you – simply print out the tag and attach it to your item. Each tag will include a barcode with your pricing and account info and when your items are sold at the event, they are scanned an allocated to your account. At the end of the event, your total sales are tallied through the system and you are paid between 60% and 80% of your total sales.
