Technology never ceases to amaze me. I remember a number of years ago, I got a Motorola StarTAC cell phone (remember those?). Due to its small size, it was the most sought after cell phone on the market. I remember my husband (who was my boyfriend at the time), made a comment about how in the future, our iPods and cell phones and computers were going to be combined into one device. I thought he had absolutely lost his mind.
Fast forward to current day and wow, what a surprise! Our iPhones and other smartphones combine so many different aspects of our lives – our communication, business, music, online activity and more onto one device.
A few weeks ago, we posted about how using our Verizon Fios services in our house made things a lot easier. Today, in less than 5 minutes, I was able to use the widgets on my set top box to transform my iPhone into a remote control. It’s pretty cool and there are some neat built in features, such as automatically muting/pausing the television when your cell phone rings. Utilizing the phone as a remote is easy too – the buttons are large enough and the layout very user friendly.
I was also able to very easily stream the photos from my iPhone to my television as a slideshow, which is a great feature for sharing.
Other smartphones, including the Droid, can be utilized with this widget. Please note that Verizon FiOS is only available in select parts of the country.
