With autumn and (hopefully) cooler weather arriving comes a host of various fall and Halloween ideas for your family to enjoy. When deciding your weekend activities this fall, there are so many things to do that it’s hard to choose! We’ve done our research and put together a list.
Best Places To Go Pumpkin Picking On Long Island
Stakey’s Pumpkin Farm
270 West Lane, Aquebogue
Stakey’s Pumpkin Farm is open for the 2011 season through October 30. There are no entrance fees to pick your own pumpkins from the 26-acre field. Choose to pay per pound or pay one price for all the pumpkins you can carry. Enjoy a 3-acre corn maze, Scooby Doo Bounce House for kids under 12, face painting, pony rides and Snack Shack.
Hours: Monday through Friday noon – 5pm; weekends, Rosh Hashana and Columbus Day 9am – 5pm
Harbes Farm & Vineyard
715 Sound Avenue, Mattituck
1223 Main Road, Jamesport
5698 Sound Avenue, Riverhead
Fall Festivals are held at all three locations every weekend through October 31 (plus Columbus Day) from 9am to 6pm with plenty free parking, U-Pick Pumpkins and use of wagons. Each location also offers hayrides and unique maze adventures. Pony rides are offered at Mattituck and Jamesport locations (depending on the weather). Activities may be at an additional cost.
Hours: Fall Festival weekends 9am – 6pm, Farm open 9am – 6pm daily
Woodside Nursery & Garden Center
134 East Woodside Avenue, Patchogue
Pumpkin picking is available daily through the end of October. For an additional fee, enjoy the “Octobercation” outdoor exhibit including tips for Trick or Treat Safety, replica of the world’s biggest pumpkin, Giant Scale and more. The “Haunted Tunnel” features over 300 feet of not too scary indoor haunted exhibits with moving props, special effects, lighting, music and more. Kids can burn off some energy in the Balloon Bounce and mine for gold at the panning station. Fresh roasted corn is available on the weekends. No general admission fees and plenty of free parking is available.

Colonial Springs Farm
201 Main Avenue, Wheatley Heights
Come enjoy a day on our farm with your kids in the little farmers playland area and use the Radio Flyer wagons for your pumpkin picking
Hours: Wednesday through Friday noon – 5pm, weekends and Columbus Day 10am – 5pm
56 Gnarled Hollow Road, E. Setauket
Pick your own pumpkins in the kid-sized pumpkin patch on the weekends through October 30th – it’s a real pumpkin field with pumpkins surrounded by vines. Hayrides and feeding farm animals are included with admission ($6/adult, $5/kids), additional fee for pumpkin painting.
Hours: Weekends only, noon – 4pm
240 Montauk Highway, Watermill
Pick your own pumpkins right from the vine and enjoy the Maze Park. All day admission to the maze park, wagon & tractor rides, farm activities, slides and more is $10.
Hours: Watermill location open through October 31, 930am – 6pm. Maze Park and Apple Picking are open weekends, plus 9/25, 9/26 and Columbus Day. Pumpkin Picking is 7 days/week.
169 Washington Street, East Islip
Pumpkins, tractor pulled hayrides, fall decorations and snacks are all available daily on this organic farm. No admission fee.
Hours: 9am – 6pm daily through Halloween
6361 RT. 25A, Wading River
Pumpkin fields are open from September 28 through Halloween. On weekends, visitors can enjoy hayrides, May’s amazing corn maze, hot roasted sweet corn, musical entertainment and visits from Elmo and Cookie Monster.

The Milk Pail
1346 Montauk Highway, Water Mill
Select your own great Halloween pumpkin from our pumpkin patch filled with all sizes, shapes and colors. There is no admission fee for pumpkin picking. U-Pick apples are also available.
Hours: Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays 10am to 530pm. Open Thursday September 29 & Monday, October 10 also 10am to 530pm.
White Post Farms
250 Old Country Road, Meville
For a full day of Fall family fun, visit White Post Farms. After you pick your pumpkin, enjoy free unlimited hayrides with paid admission to the animal farm. The Fall Festival will be weekends (and Columbus Day) through the end of October. Visit their website for discounts on admission.
Hours: Gates are open 10am to 4pm (stay until 6pm)
Schmitt’s Family Farm
26 Pinelawn Road, Melville
The daytime fall fun includes pumpkin picking, hayrides, a corn maze, Long Island’s largest hay pyramid, farm animals and much more. Visit their website for coupons for discounted admission.
Hours: 9am – 5pm daily. Daytime fun is open weekends and Columbus Day through the end of October.
Borella’s Farm Stand
485 Edgewood Avenue, St. James
Every weekend in October (and Columbus Day) brings the Harvest Fall Festival which includes pumpkin picking, a corn maze, music, food, bouncie houses, hayrides and more. Admission is $10, kids under 3 years old are free.
