Tonight’s a big night in TV – the Golden Globe awards. I’m not a huge awards show person. Although I find the Emmy’s tolerable and Neil Patrick Harris ALWAYS entertaining as the host of the Tony’s, I don’t appreciate fashion enough and very rarely see any of the movies nominated for Oscars. But as the Golden Globes are a mixture of movies and TV, it’s enough to keep me half watching. (If you missed it, see a list of all of the Golden Globe winners here).
Some observations from tonight’s Golden Globes
Why is Diane Keaton wearing a suit and tie?
Thrilled that Amy Poehler won and her acceptance speech was adorable “I never win so I can’t believe I won!”
Amazing to see Michael Douglas glorifying Matt Damon in his acceptance speech “The only reason you’re not here is because I had more sequins”.
Frozen won best animated feature was highly deserved.
Jonah Hill & Margot Robbie’s teleprompter failed, but they handled it gracefully, and then Tina Fey made fun of Michael Bey’s teleprompter fail and subsequent meltdown at CES.
Jared Leto won Best Supporting Actor for Dallas Buyers Club, but raise you’re hand if you’re with me when I say he’ll always be Jordan Catalano to me.
Rob Lowe doesn’t seem to be getting any older.
Speaking of Rob Lowe…..right before the Golden Globes came on, I saw a commercial that I had to rewind to make sure I understood it right. It was a movie trailer of a new 2014 release, About Last Night. What? Yes, About Last Night. The movie we love from the 80’s where Rob Lowe and Demi Moore were Danny and Debbie, one of my favorite movie couples of all time. Not only is About Last Night being remade, it will be a more “contemporary” version. They’re on Facebook. They’re clubbing. They’re taking selfies. The soundtrack is totally different (80’s girls, admit it, you had the cassette). Judging from the quick commercial, the only conclusion I can draw is that this is so NOT our 80’s favorite. Watch the trailer below and see for yourself – what do you think? I think I will not be seeing this.
