Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday – I love everything about it, and every year, we host Thanksgiving dinner at our house for our families. There are no religious restrictions on food so we have a ton of delicious dishes, and it is always a really fun family day.
I will admit that I have taken our amazing Thanksgivings for granted. A ridiculous food spread, eating until we are full (and then eating more), sitting around talking and laughing with family – that is what our Thanksgiving looks like every single year. Unfortunately, that is not the picture for every family.
Some families can’t afford the food.
Some families are barely getting by.
Sometimes it’s a struggling mom and/or dad and kids, without any other family to support or encourage or just be there for them.
For some families, Thanksgiving comes and goes like a regular day, only they hope that next year it will be different for them. That next year, they’ll be sitting at a table overflowing with food and laughter, friends and family. That they will sacrifice this year, if only they could have that next year.
Could you imagine your year without Thanksgiving?
The Scary Mommy Thanksgiving Project 2014
No one person can expect, or be expected to, help the world. But can you help just one family?
Last year, over 2,700 families received help with Thanksgiving from The Scary Mommy Thanksgiving Project, and with your help, this year, even more families will be helped.
Scary Mommy is an online community of parents who have come together under a common theme: Parenting doesn’t have to be perfect. Sound like something you could get behind? Together with the community, Scary Mommy Nation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization was born 3 years ago to help families celebrate a Thanksgiving dinner they normally would have gone without.
If you can afford to help a struggling family, please donate by clicking here. Fifty dollars buys an entire dinner – you can, of course, give less and be grouped with other donors, or give more and sponsor multiple families.
If you could use help with your Thanksgiving holiday, click here to apply. Applications will close 11/1.
