Last night my husband was out and I sat down with the kids to watch a movie. Of course they wanted to watch ridiculous movies that we’ve seen about a hundred times before, so I made a rule – I get to pick the movie. (Insert evil laugh here….)
We opened the cabinet where we have about a million DVDs……and realized that we need to clear out that cabinet, pronto.
Then we looked to Netflix streaming and looked up some comedies, scrolling specifically to the section called Goofy Movies and felt like I opened up a treasure chest back to the 80’s – the movies made then were unlike any others. I realized that my kids are old enough to watch some of the fantastic movies we all grew up with, and last night we started with Mr. Mom. You’ve got to remember Michael Keaton in this 1983 flick as a dad who stays home with the kids after he loses his job and his wife goes back to work. Mr. Mom was a dad unlike the dads of today – he had never taken care of his three kids before and had not a clue what to do, so of course, hilarity ensues. And of course, we all remember Kenny and his woobie.
We all loved the movie, actually I loved it until my son referred to it being made in “the olden days”. But that’s another discussion.
Today I’m thinking about all the movies I loved as a kid that I want my own kids to watch this year.
- Karate Kid
- The Goonies
- Back to the Future (1, 2 and 3)
- E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
- The Princess Bride
- Adventures in Babysitting
That’s my list – what’s on yours?
