Every year, my supermarket runs a promotion where if you spend however much money, you’ll get a coupon for a free turkey or a free ham for the holidays. The turkey is never big enough to feed our masses on Thanksgiving and really to be honest, I’m not sure that I always redeem my coupon. This year though, I will be redeeming it for a turkey to donate.
The 5th Annual Bethpage Turkey Drive to benefit Island Harvest Food Bank will have drop-off locations in both Nassau and Suffolk this year. Long Islanders are asked to donate frozen turkeys, non-perishable food items or cash to help Island Harvest supply meals to the over 300,000 hungry Long Islanders in need, which includes thousands of victims of Hurricane Sandy still facing hardships.
Drop-off information is as follows
- Nassau County – Friday, November 15 from 7am to 6pm outside of Bethpage Federal Credit Union‘s main branch at 899 South Oyster Bay Road, Bethpage
- Suffolk County – Saturday, November 23 from 11am to 1pm in the parking lot outside of Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, Stony Brook
Please make whatever donations you can this year.
